The First Degree of Freemason –Entered Apprentice Mason

The scottish rite freemason has 33 degrees.The first degree is Entered Apprentice .

the symbol is displayed that Both points (legs) of the compass lie under the square. The Entered Apprentice degree symbolizes Youth. Symbolically, this means that the Entered Apprentice has not yet learned to circumscribe his passions upon the square of virtue.

The working tools of Entered Apprentice :

an Entered Apprentice use 24 Inch Gauge and the Common gavel to work. The 24 inch gauge means that Entered Apprentice should divide one day time to 3 parts: 8 hours for the service of god and a distressed worthy with an brother;8 hours for work;8 hours for sleep.

The Common Gavel means that you will begin to shape your character ,and to divest your heart and conscience of all the vices and superfluities of life ,like using The Common Gavel to building ashlar.

What does an Entered Apprentice must know:

1.All Freemasons continually seek "Light" what represents knowledge.

2.An Entered Apprentice may enter the lodge room only when it is open.

3.An Entered Apprentice has the right of instruction by competent brethren to obtain "suitable proficiency in the work of the first degree"

4.An Entered Apprentice must be diligent in learning and to the best he is able,he will suit such time and place of learning to that of his instructors.

Which masonic gifts can an Entered Apprentice wear?

In the United States, most members who attain their Entered Apprentice and Fellowcraft degrees have only a relatively short period of time before they become a Master Mason, making masonic gifts for the first 2 degrees quickly unnecessary and therefore, neverworagain.However, in some other countries, such as Australia, becoming a Master Mason is a much longer journey which is performed in the time-honored method, which includes proficiency and in which it takes 7 years to go from Entered Apprentice to Master Mason.
